I also did the same diameter on the carpet to cut the carpet away to avoid wrecking the remaining carpet with the jig-saw.

Cut gingerly with the jigsaw. Actually cuts quite easily. Eye protection is heavily suggested- the little shards of aluminum were flying around quite a bit.

Measuring carefully to make sure the access plate screw holes are absoultely square.
