X-45 Owners - What do you tow with?
X-45 owners - What do you use to tow your boat? Anybody use a 4x4 Expedition?
I know it sure is a heavy boat/trailer combo - Just curious your tow vehicle of choice to lug that big boat around... |

I use a diesel crew cab 4x4 to pull my x2, I would think of nothing less for an x45 unless the lake is just around the corner.

Depends on how far you are trailering. I've towed X-45's with much less than that but only for short distances. Our shop list of vehicles used for X-45's are
F250 Gas H2 SUT Gas Silverado 2500HD Diesel Silverado 1500 Gas Silverado 1500 HD Gas I would imagine an Expedition would tow it pretty well. I'll be towing a 45 from time to time with a F150 crew cab. |

A friend of mine use a GMC 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 liter. He said its not that bad. But he would prefer something bigger for the up hill pull.

Before my X-star and 230VRS, I had a twin-engine Formula 303 (over 9,000 lbs. with trailer) that I pulled with my 3/4 ton Suburban 6.0 liter. It did it, but was a handfull! If you go with the expedition, get the diesel or V-10. If I were you, diesel power is the only way to go.
(I'm still waiting for Chevy to put a diesel in the Suburban someday!)

I use a Superduty F250 Diesel 4x4. Keep in mind that the weights listed are dry and with a small block motor. Add a trailer, 90 gallons of fuel, gear and a big block motor and you jump ~2,500 lbs.

Has anyone had experience using a 4x4 Nissan Titan to tow an X 45? Only reason I ask is b/c I am able to order a Titan as a company car. Curious how well that can handle the boat...

Have never tried the Titan.
I use an Excursion w/a 6.0 PSD and it tows it very nicely. Recently moved from Arkansas to North Carolina (~900 mile drive) and it was a very safe pull. We've also pulled it w/an Excursion w/the V-10 gasser which did fine too. After power, the next most important thing for safe towing is a long wheelbase on the tow vehicle, the longer the better; it prevents the boat from trying to push the tow vehicle around. I also use the Equal-i-zer hitch because the boat trailer combo exceeds my receiver's "weight carrying" limit of 5000#. It distributes the weight well and still allows the surge brakes to work.

I have a Nissan Titan that I use for towing. I pulled my 90 Maristar 210 from Maryland to Raleigh, NC no problems (boat dry weight around 3200, 30gallons of fuel in it and the trailer add up to probably around 5k lbs.). I averaged about 12.5 mpg pulling it between 65mph-75mph. For work, we have a 20ft Pacer enclosed trailer that weighs close to 8k lbs. I regularly travel between Raleigh and Charleston, SC with it and get around 9-10mpg (Mind you I am on I95 South doing 75-80mph.) Truck pulls like a monster. I don't hesitate to put anything to the back of it and roll.

So what I am gathering, the consensus seems to be Heavy Duty truck is best to pull an X-45.
Anyone actually using a light duty pick up (Titan, F-150, Silverado 1500) to tow this boat? |
