X30 Advice

I have an opportunity to pick up a 2003 X30 and had some questions about the ski wake. I currently have a 2004 Four Winns Horizion 190 that I bought for my lake house and a 93 Prostar 205 that I have for the river near my home. The lake house is 3 and a half hours away and I hate to pull a boat up there every weekend. I know the ski wake will not be anything near the 205, but will it be a lot better then the Four Winns? I only free ski at about 15 off but both my kids board and we all surf now. I hope to keep the 205 because I would not want to use the X30 on the Milwaukee River.

My buddy has a 4Winns, I have a 2004 230 VRS...yes, the X30 ski wake will be a LOT better. You can make it even better if you want to go to the trouble and expense (~$1000) of adding a wake plate.

Thanks. I also saw your pics of your wake and they look much better than the Four Winns. I never knew how bad the wake was until I got the Mastercraft.

The X-30 is one of the best boats MC has ever built, IMHO!

I love everything about it, the versatility, size, space, and wake!!

The X-35 will be better though!!

I have an '05 X-30, same hull as the one you are looking at. I have skied behind ours (I think twice), but only to prove I could still ski. If you're only into recreational skiing, it's a decent wake. You're right, it won't compare to your 205, but I grew up skiing behind I/Os, and IMHO the X-30 beats that all day long. The X-30 was meant as a cross-over boat; you won't get the greatest ski wake and you won't get the greatest wakeboard wake, but you will get a great boat with lots of space that still has the ability to do both pretty well for the recreational rider. I will say though, the boat puts out quite a nice wake for foiling.

I would agree with what everyone else has said. I too owned a PS205 (mine was a '95 - same hull as your '93). The ski wake behind the PS205 is incredible. I am a skier but turned to the X30 (I have a 2002) for room for the family and to be able to wakeboard and surf. The surf wake and great. The wakeboard wake is a little wide in my opinion. As for skiing, it is not great but definately better than any I/O. My brother-in-law has a 20' Cobalt I/O and it is an absolute PIG to ski behind. It takes a country mile to just get up behind that thing and once your up, the wake is horrible.

What engine is in the 2003 X30? Hopefully at least the MCX. My 2002 X30 has the L-18 and I love it.

Good luck and post pictures of it if or when you get it.

That hull X30 throws a GREAT surf wake. Very big, and a very long sweet spot. Like others have said, it's skiable, but you have your 205 for that anyway. Really is a great boat (I liked it better than the 06 version).

Even better!!!!!

The only issue is you won't be able to install a hot water shower because that engine has a closed cooling system.

I don't think all LQ9's were closed cooling.
