Transmission operating pressure

The tech guy at the transmission site suggested "It could need rebuilt but you should check the operating pressure to make sure. It should be no lower then 120 PSI. If it holds pressure at all operating ranges you might want to check the engine. A misfiring engine will cause the damper plate to sound bad."

How do you check the operating pressure and what exactly are you measuring?
