X10 Power

Hi,

Following on form my last post about the X10 I have another question.

The one I am looking at has the Predetor engine which is 310hp. Is this enough HP if I am looking to run about 1500lbs of ballast and 5 people in the boat?? Most of the X1s Im looking at have the MCX which is 350hp and the boat is sameller

Thanks

Dave

The MCX is a fantastic engine. Plenty of power for the X10, lot's of torque down low, where you'll need it for keeping a constant speed wakeboarding or surfing, especially with ballast. My 230VRS with MCX all-up weighs less than an X-10 with 1500 lbs of ballast - its performance is good but I certainly would not want to give up 40 horsepower for the Predator.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Predator engine had 330 hp?

Ok I a swaying towards the X10 with the 310hp engine as it has more space than the X1.
However Im still concerned about it only having 310hp. Will it be happy to lug me, 4 friends and 1500lbs of ballast????????????? Does anyone out their have a 310hp X10? Are you happy with the performace?? Do you run a ballast system??

Im in the UK and MC's are in limited supply, this is the only X10 in the country for sale so finding one with the MCX engine is not an option.

Being that finding an X10 with the MCX in your neck of the woods looks to be tough, if might want to ask what you can do in terms of re-propping the boat to off-set the HP loss. It sounds like you will be doing a lot of wakeboarding and surfing with the weights/people you are talking about, and if you are not concerned with top speed, putting a different size prop on will give you that extra shot out of the hole. Now, with that said, there are cons to doing it as well, and being that I am not a prop expert, I would caution you to check into just what the boat can safely handle without damaging the engine or tranny by over-reving, etc.
Just something else to consider, I am sure someone on here can speak more to the true effect a different prop would have.

I had the X10 with the 310. Ballast, I had about 1200lbs in the back, center locker full, and ~300lbs in the nose. Add 12 people and a rider and that's a lot of weight. The 310 pushed/pulled it all, although it did struggle a bit out of the hole.

I wouldn't hesitate to get it again, although I'd re-prop it. Having it in the X10 made me know that it'd be just fine in my 205v.

Thanks for the reassurance. What prop would you recommend?
Cheers
Dave

I wouldn't throw a number out to you because I don't know for that application. I'd suggest you contact Eric at OJ props. He has a profile on this site. Here is there website http://www.ojprops.com/ . They are/were the OEM supplier of props to MC and he'll probably offer to let you trial before you buy.

If you'll only be running 1500lbs you might be satisfied with what is already on there, but give him a call and talk with him.

EDIT: Eric's profile here is "EJ OJPROP" http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/member.php?u=1537
