LY6 or L18for an 08 X-Star

I am in my final stages of ordering an 08 X-Star and have to make a decission on which motor. I won't be running extra ballast nor do I have more that 3-4 adults in the boat at a time.
Rumour has it (on WW) the L18 may be dropped soon by Indmar.
Is there any downside to ordering my boat with the LY6 versus the L18 such as resale value etc.?
Can any of the dealers comment on the motor most ordered with new 08 X-Stars?

Thanks

I would check how it helps or hurts resale, to see if it is worth the extra money. Then look at fuel useage and power differences to. But above all, there is nothing like telling people you gotta big block in your boat....

I assume that you wakeboard, so chances are you will (a) want to add more ballast someday for a bigger wake, and (b) you will gain many friends with that boat (I did).

Go for the big block if you can afford it, never a need for more power then.

my vote is for the L18. The x-star and the L18 were made for each other. I don't think the $$ upgrade from the LY6 to the L18 is hugely signficant on this particular boat. I think the boat would resell quicker with the L18 than with the LY6, however this is only my opinion.

LY6 is more motor than you'll ever need, especially when propped properly.

I'm sure MYMC will be along shortly. Pretty sure he is going to tell you to go with the L18. Here is a quote from him on a previous discussion of LY6 vs L18

I answered this before...there is no comparision between the two. Do the math 500+ ft/lbs times 1.52 vs 400 ft/fbs times 1.52 give you prop torque...the big block wins EVERY TIME! I KEEP REPEATING MYSELF! HOW MANY UNHAPPY L-18 OWNERS HAVE YOU SEEN POST ON HERE?
And again from the same thread

The big block L-18 is the ONLY why to go with these bigger boats.

Seems like the L18 is being discontinued

Originally i was going with the L18 but from what i understand that motor is going to be discontinued. So it may seem that greater resale value may be moving towards the LY6.
