Trailering with a jeep grand cherokee V6

I have a 2000 Jeep GC V6 SUV and was wondering if it would be able to tow a 4000# boat without ruining the tranny. I have looked in the manual and it says it can tow up to 5000# but am wondering if anyone here has done it? Thanks

06' w/ V6, I've towed an X7 with one. Didn't have much of an issue other than it really suks down fuel!!
One of the guys tows his 6000# boat on a regular basis with his '04 JGC but his has a V8. When he had a 3500# boat previous, I've even followed him from Chicago to Lake of the Ozarks Missouri. He did tend to do alot of drifting on the highway.
He did have to lock it in 4Low to get it up the launch ramp....

I went from a Yukon to a Jeep GC 2000 with the hopes of saving gas... I forgot about the pulling my ProStar 190. It does pull slow, just won't stop quick!!!! Trans is a little thin for the tow. My reverse is noisy.. Now I tow with a one ton Van. Just use the Jeep for Jet Ski's....

W4T, you have not asked him if he has a death wish? 6,000lbs with a Jeep. I'm glad he is up there with you.

I towed 5,000 lbs with a regular Cherokee once over 500 miles. Towed fine. Just wouldn't stop 'til it hit something. Any time, if what you're pulling weighs more than what you're pulling it with... you're asking for trouble.

My brother in law towed a supra comp all over the hill country west of Austin with a 9 year old Jeep XJ V6 with no troubles. 2nd the transmission cooler.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

the '06 Jeep Liberty Diesel tows the '05 197 like it is nothing...a little light on the rear, but that could be upgraded someday...

just change tranny fluid often, like the boat...

I have the 4L straight 6 in the regular cherokee 1997(I think you call it Liberty) to tow my PS190 and it goes very well, even in the Swiss Alps.

About braking; don't you use trailers with brakes or something? My car stops better with than without the boat. Get some decent brakes on your trailer!
