From time to time as a kid, I remember seeing cars at the bottom of N.Ogden pass that had much more terrible consequences.
She's fine, thanks, except for that she's hesitant to drive up there now. Has only driven to the cabin once since the accident. My 6-yr old daughter was in the car as well and was pretty unfazed by the whole thing.

True enough and the funny thing is that she'd be quick to agree. We had talked about replacing the MB with something else but after seeing how the car (and people) came through the wreck it was a no brainer to get another one (especially since she'll be driving it ). As far as my letting her... I guess I'm just glad she'll "let" me use it to tow the boat since I don't want a truck as my daily driver.

The wife's new rig with our boat. What license plates do you guys run if you don't need a state plate? Here's ours for the FCS DI football champs, Go Bison!

I haven't read the whole thread, but does anyone pull with a 197 with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (aka LJ)? Mine is an 05 and the rated capacity is 3500. Dry I think I am 80 lb under the wire... Not my primary tow vehicle but top down runs to the ramp would be nice on a sunny day. Does it handle the boat ok? Towed with a 3500 limit vehicle before but it was a pathfinder and the lower limit was purely clutch related vs the slushbox version which was rated at 5k.

Not sure what your boat weighs, but I pull my 2200lb 83 S&S with a 4.0L Cherokee XJ. I don't have any problems pulling it up the ramp, and it pulls straight without any sway. My trailer doesn't have brakes either, and the Jeep handles it fine. I should also note that I'm lifted about 5.5" on 32" tires with no regearing. I wouldn't pull across the country with it, but to and from the lake or from my house to storage unit (20 miles) it does just fine. There's a picture of it a couple pages back I think. You said you're 80lbs under the limit... I'd be careful with that. Be sure to add in the weight of fuel, and all your gear that's loaded in the boat.

Were they still putting the 4.0L in the Wrangers in 05?

Yes, it's the 4.0 with the heavy duty 6 spd for the Rubicon package. Geared pretty low so I'm not concerned about moving forward in a straight line. Stability and stopping (trailer has brakes) are my primary concerns. Will try on a short trip. My longest tow is about an hour and can be done without touching the big highways.
