I have an alarm on the house, but not the garage...I need to get on that before Ric finds my place on Google Earth

Dave,

Why can't the door on the right go in? Looks from the pic that it could go in, but you might need a step or a platform inside the garage. Am I missing something?

The reason we wanted to put the door in was to get tools on wheels such as pressure washer and lawnmower out without opening the door (my fathers idea). I would always open the garage door to get anything out. Right now my boat is parked in my friends driveway. I just want it done.

If it's done before they catch you, it's just double fees but if they catch it in progress, they can put a stop work order on it and double the fees. That's also not a great way to make friends in the inspector's office. The ones here aren't friends but one of them has let me slide on quite a few things over the years. One of these days, I need to have the electrical for the new furnace finished so it can be inspected and signed off. I had the furnace replaced in early Feb. and he knows about it. Hasn't said a word, either.

Where in WI are you?
In Oconomowoc.

seems like you could get one of those motion or door contact sensors which could light an led or a beeper in the house where you'd know if the door was open/shut/ being opened/ passed through etc... I know a few country folk that have them on their gates
