New Boat-New Registration Numbers

I just bought a new-to-me 209 (Need to sell 98 Sammy Duvall 205-see marketplace). The boat was originally registered in GA, then NC, and I now have it in VA. I will have to put on VA registration numbers. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way of removing the old numbers?

Use a hair dryer on high or a heat gun on low and peel up a corner and gently remove, then if any glue remains, dissolve it mineral spirits, Goo Gone, decal adhesive remover or even lacquer thinner, do not use Acetone, it may damage the gelcoat. Apply the new letter/number decals then wax everything up.
