I have the same problem on my 1984. Best I can tell though (at least without running out of gas) is that it's pretty accurate at the E end of the spectrum. With 1/8 showing on the gauge I have ~3-4 gallons of gas left. I think, but am not positive that the tank is 25 gallons. I'll be curious to see what others say.

Had a similar problem with my 98 PS190. Had the sending unit replaced with one that you could adjust what was full and what was empty. Worked like a champ. Can't guarantee it, but believe it was made by Teleflex. http://www.tflx.com/senderse-g.html

My '83 S&S does the same thing. Can you change out the sending unit without pulling the tank?
