Yes there is a gap because the mounting surface has feet to space the back of the light 1/8" or less between the hull and the light. The center foot has the wire that runs to the inside of the boat. That footing gets sealed as well.

Yeah they are bright. I did a lot of research and the BulletLines lights are brighter than the Abyss lights. Lumans power crap that I do not really understand says that they are brighter. Warranty was the same I think so I clicked BUY and installed them.

Bullets were not out 4 years ago when the Abyss' went in my boat, but if they were, I would have installed them. The Abyss' do just fine, but the Bullets would probably double the illuminated area behind the boat. The Abyss give about a 25' illuminated area behind the boat at anchor... just enough for the girls to feel safe enough to jump off the boat in the dark.

The lights would just attract Gators here in Florida!
