Tire mount or hide?

I notice in most of the pics on TT that really sweet rides have the spare sticking up proud on the trailer mount. I have no spare and need to buy one this week. I'm trying to decide to match my custom rims and tire and mount on trailer as so many do, or go std steel rim with std trailer tire on it and just keep it in my rig when going down the road. Matter of opinions, but I thought I would ask for them....mount it proudly or hide it? Does it get in the way when trailering your boat when it's mounted on the side of the trailer?

I saw at least one post stating that the spare rubs, but have seen many trailers carrying spares on the mount which must mean that is a special situation.

I have gone the cheap route, and will be buying a spare tire cover to cover up the ugly steel wheel. Much cheaper than the OEM wheel !

You can even get a MC spare tire cover, from the proshop IIRC.
