I used the 3M rubbing compound but with only a light cutting pad and then went with the finesse II with a pad that had even less cut. Then finished it off with the scotch guard marine wax by 3M. Very happy with the results. Transom and port side were pretty bad and they cleaned up nice. No more oxidation! Finally! Just have to finish off the trailer with new seadeck pads.

Help!!
First post! I have been a lake addict my whole life, just finished college, got a job, and a lake loving wife... So my first big boy purchase was my first boat, why not a Mastercraft! Bought a 1991 Maristar 210, I know it's not MCs finest boat, but its a start! Problem is 22 years have taken its toll on the finish. My plan as of now is wet sand 1000, 1500, 2000, followed by compound, polish and wax. Good idea, bad idea? Any input will be appreciated!

I found http://mastercraft.com/teamtalk/show...elcoat+restore by searching "gelcoat restore" which has good information so no need to restate. Lots of information to be found on this subject just by searching. Basically, wet sanding can be used to get rid of light scratches (deep ones require repairing gelcoat - whole other subject), compound to get rid of oxidation, polish/wax to really make it shine. |
