Access to fuel tank?

'89 Tristar 190. There is a circular hatch, identical to the one that exposes the plug, which leads to the fuel tank. Problem is, I want to get to the gas gauge sending unit, and it's not directly under the hatch opening. Instead, it's off to the side several inches, and is positioned so I cannot pull the old unit out, because it hits the deck.

Do I have to take up the entire deck (or at least a big segment of it) to get to this, or is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the Tristar, but I have a 1990 Prostar 190. In order to get the sending unit out I had to disconnect everything on the gas tank and move the tank forward into the boat. Can you do that on the Tristar?

New boat - 1993 Prostar 205. Bought in better shape than the 190 was but still needed some work.
