Trailer brakes locking up.

I just bought a non current 2017 XT20, on the drive home at highway speeds the brakes fully engaged, while the truck was under power. By the time I pulled off the highway the brakes were smoking. It happened to a lesser degree a few more times on the way home and when I got on my street I could hear squeeking, like the callipers are rubbing. Any ideas ? The breakaway is not an issue. Dealer is 250 miles away so I'd like to solve this problem locally, if possible.

Check the flexible brake line at the back of the actuator to see if it's kinked from moving the swing tongue. I had something similar happen after storage. I had folded the tongue back for winter storage to save room in the pole barn. When I swung it back the hose folded on itself and pinched the line. During braking brake fluid would be forced into the system activating the brakes but wouldn't fully release due to the pinched line. That resulted in the brakes dragging pretty bad.

Interesting, I would not even think about checking the brake line with the folding tongue

I just got lucky finding it. I was getting ready to replace the actuator as I couldn't think or anything else that could make all the brakes drag. I opened the tongue to see how bad the job was going to be and noticed the flexible line was kinked. I straightened the line and carefully slid it back into the tube when I closed the tongue and everything worked again. Not saying that's what's going on here but it would be something quick to check.

Another thing to look at would be the emergency breakaway cable. There should be a release you can press.
