Who has an XT23 with Ilmor 5000 MPI?

I'd love to hear from anyone that has the Ilmor 5000 MPI in their XT23. Having had the 6.2L in my last XT23, I know first hand just how impressive that motor is in this boat. I would like to get some real honest feedback from those that have the 5.7 engine. If you could go back and upgrade to the 5500 GDI, would you? I've heard with auto-launch this engine performs very well even with fully loaded stock ballast. I have about a week to make changes to my order.

If I had to do it all over? I'd go the 5500 GDI Motor all day long. I love the 5.7, it works great in my X10, but the GDI motors are quieter and more fuel efficient I've found in the 2017 and 2018's I've ridden in. Anythihg larger than the XT21 and I'd seriously be looking at the 5500 GDI.

We'll go out on a surf night with 6-8 people... do 2-3 hrs straight and only burn a 1/4 tank in an XT23 with the 5500 GDI. Estimate about 4-5 GPH. Not Scientific by any means, just what I've seen. No issues in launching, full of people and or ballast with the 5500GDI

The XT23 with the 5000 MPI will be fine, but I'd recommend a different prop if you add the extra weight with the bags.

If you are asking that question, I think you already know the answer and may be hoping someone will give you a reason to go smaller. Never heard someone say they really liked less power in their boat, regardless of size. But I may not be the best example for the direction it appears you want to go. I put a 6000GDI in an XT21 and have no regrets when passengers and ballast are brought onboard.

I have a XT 23 with the 6000 GDI. If I was building a new boat I would probably put the 5500 GDI in at least that was the plan if we were building new. We happen to find a boat that met our criteria and had the upgraded 6000 GDI. Like others have said canít go wrong with more power but if it was between the 5000 or the 5500 GDI I would pick the 5500 GDI all day long

I couldn't agree more. You can never have enough engine in a boat regardless of auto launch.

It wouldn't surprise me that the 6000 GDI will be more efficient than the smaller engine because it wont have to work as hard. For me it would be hard to go from the 6000 to the 5000 in the same boat.
