2016 TACOMA LTD 4x4 @ 2014 X30

Go the Truck this Morning-
2016 tacoma Limited 4x4 + Tow package, and Hard tri-fold tonneau cover

I wanted a Midsize Truck that "Could" also Tow my Boat and Desert gear for local 100mile or less trips. Really need a dual purpose light work truck, for when needs exceed my Jetta Tdi (cough-cough)
We have a nice Sequoia that hauls the Big River trips...

Truck is super nice, read those reviews elsewhere..

Here is my initial experience Today (long day)
Received truck with 108 mile on a dealer transfer.

Drove 80miles on full tank of Fuel in San Diego combined city hwy driving, Hwy speeds medium traffic 55-75mph tops, stop and go city and rural drive to my home North eastern Oceanside.
Filled fuel TANK 3 gals( would not take a drop more)
Truck comp said 22 MPG, hard math gave me 26 MPG

Drove one mile to Boat storage, Hooked up my 2014 X30 w//MC trailer
Double checked everything, as boat sat for 30days.
The X30 does NOT dwarf the 2016 Tacoma as I feared.

Cover on
Tower Up
Boat 4700lbs
Trailer 1000lbs
Full Fuel 50 gal (300 lbs?)
Gear in Boat 250lbs tops
LEAD 500lbs
Total approx -6750 lbs
Tow Rating 6200 lbs

THIS IS YOUR WORSE CASE TOW SITUATION

0-50 16 seconds
0-60 22 seconds
You are not beating anyone off the starting line, but you ca join freeway traffic on the Ramp no problem

I drove the Truck and trailer combo 40miles thru a good variety of country and backroads various climbs and road conditions.
The Boat does not PUSH this truck around, but you will ask a lot of this engine and transmission.
Typical country road bumps felt the same as on my Tundra and Sequoia.
Braking always felt good.

Drove down to the I15 Freeway and Jump on at one of the Long Climbs with the Big Rigs and the FLASHERS on. This was a good test of the new V6 and 6 speed auto.
I stayed in Power ETC mode and Sport gearing to limit shifting.
Rig was able to get to 65mph from stop to steep uphill climb. 3rd and 4th gear were ideal.
65 produced 5000 rpm, 6000 is redline
I did pass all the Big rigs going up hill. I did not pass ANYTHING else.
Drove a Mile or so on some flats, 50-65,
Truck likes 4th at these speeds. RPM and noise were greatly reduce when not on grade.

I DID NOT GO EASY Towing the Boat, tried all situations, stopping hard accelerating harder.
Really pushed the Rig. (within reasonable safety of those around and myself)

FUEL USE - Truck Computer 13 MPG, actual HARD MATH 40miles 4 gallons yep 10mpg!!
Again this is 550 OVER MAX TOWING rating. I drove the rig as hard as i dared.
I would NOT normally drive like that with my Boat. But I like to give worse case #s

drool

Very nice lots of good info here thx for sharing. With my Pilot (cough Honda Ridgeline actually) hauling a fully loaded X9 (~4000lbs) it does well too. Lacks torque on the interstate esp. going up extended elevation but other than that not bad at all.

Toyota's are rock solid trucks. Not surprised it goes over the towing limit. Not sure i'd do much over 4k pounds in the RL though even though its rated at 5k but its not a yoda.

Good job on the Tacoma!! Knew you wouldn't be disappointed!! REALLY happy to read that you beat the **** out of it and it didn't miss a beat. True test of a truck imo!! Great job and good buy!

I just towed my X9 from Texas to Washington after I purchased it. It did ok but the rear suspension is a little soft in my 2014 Tacoma Baja edition.
