99 XStar vs 02 Supra Launch SS

Hoping to get some neutral & knowledgeable feedback regarding these two boats Im considering purchasing. With purchase price and shipping costs, both boats will be within $1000 of each other. Both have been maintained very well. We surf or just hang. Maybe pull a boarder here and there but only for fun.

2002 Supra Launch SS (DD)
650 hours
75% of upholstery recovered within two years
Two plumbed ballast (bow & stern)
Great sound system to include 6 tower speakers.
Spider cracking around tower
About a 1.5 ding in the gel coat bow, possibly due to previous owner taking boy out.

1999 Mastercraft XStar (VD)
513 hours
Stock ballast
Teal swim platform
Stock speakers (nothing on tower)
Interior and exterior condition very good for that year boat but original upholstery.
Has the old XStar seating with no wrap around bench.

Ready. Set. Go....thanks everyone.

if you're primarily surfing I'd go V-Drive

Ditto, the V-drive is better for surfing and I just like the more room in the boat.

Vdrive for sure. But you’re looking at the wrong two boats for surfing

The fact he is looking at these two boats makes me thinking budget is determining the option here. The 205V is a good surf wave with a suckgate IMO for the price range.

Correct, budget is the driving force behind this decision but am open to other recommendations available out there.

I understand V drive will ultimately produce better wake, Ive owned both DD & V drive. Just seeing what option would be better to continue being on the water, enjoy surfing without a large price tag. Recently had to reduce...thanks everyone.

aric is clueless, the 205v-Xstar makes a great surf wave as well as wakeboard, the supra has much to desire on all levels

The 99 star hands down.

The Supra is a great multi sport boat. It’s one of the biggest direct drives they’ve produced on the market of sheer overall size. It’s wakebord wake is solid. It’s only downside for surfing and boarding is the fact it’s a d drive so sacs will be everywhere . Both boats are prone to stress cracks around the tower back then , but the Supra gelcoat of that era is especially hard and brittle so the Supra definitely is more prose to stress cracks. They both have Indmar power plants .

The 205v /Star has one of the most legendary hulls and is always a first choice for buYers . Hands down Xstar in this case.
