1988 Tristar 190 Cover????

Sorry to post this question once again, but I've searched and I cant find what I'm looking for.
I just purchased my first MC. A 1988 Tristar 190 and I'm looking for a boat cover. When I search I find that a lot of responses are steering towards custom covers. Although I would love to go that route, I cant afford that kind of money right now. What is an OK cover that is trailerable for $250-$400? There are so many to choose from out there with 50 different sites all selling what appears to be very similar covers. It's overwhelming for a newbie like myself!

Thanks for your help!

I ordered a cover for my 1989 Tristar 190 at the end of last summer and want to say it was less than 400. I believe it's a Carver cover. I looked on Bald Mike's to see if they had an 88 listed and it didn't come up. Might be worth a shot to call about it. I believe the windshield is a little different on the 88 but it might work.

I suppose for that matter you could call Westland and Carver directly and ask if they make one for your year model.

Don't you have a tower on your boat? If so its going to probably cost about another 200 to get the the cutouts made in order to fit around it in top of whatever cover you find.

I do have a tower, but it's coming off for now. Right now my two little ones have a few years before they will be doing any wake boarding, that's if they are even interested. I figured that if and when that time comes I can take the cover to an upholstery shop and have the cut outs installed.

Thanks!
Do you or anyone else know if these are better than the aftermarket ones that you can buy today? What are your thoughts on the condition of material? Do you think it is fragile now after almost 30 yrs?

I wouldn't say fragile but maybe not that waterproof. I think it will be hard to find a cover I would consider trailering with if not custom. For your price range consider just going to boat cover direct dot com or similar and get a decent material to be waterproof. You might also try local upholstery shop to make one at a decent price

I did not think about the waterproofing. That is the main reason for needing the cover since I do not have indoor storage in the summer. I think I will pass on the NOS ones on ebay.

Thanks

Not trying to be an *** here but rather provide you with some helpful info.

While I know a custom cover right now seems like lot of $$ you specifically mention that your boat is going to be stored outside. This scenario if you cheap out on the cover will end up costing you little more money in the long run. A cheap cover is gonna have you monkeying around with supports, straps, and all kind of contraptions to keep the water from pooling. Not to mention you want to be able to tow with it. An el cheepo is going to flap around in the wind like a sail, most likely shred and scuff the crap out of your boat and trailer. Then you'll need a new to do this all over again every couple of years.

Take it from most of us here who've been through the paces. Spend the money up front on something good and it will help you enjoy your boat more and save you $$ in the long run. Just my .02
