above ballast bag storage

Has anyone tried to build a platform above ballast bags to increase storage in the back v drive compartments? I am looking for Ideas and pictures of what others have done. I have approval from my wife to increase the ballast with bags in the back compartments but she want to maintain some of the storage space.

My bags went nearly to the top of the compartment when full leaving no room for cargo. When empty I would only put things in there that were easily take out when needing to fill the bags........ towels and life jackets mostly.....

I am playing with this, worked well this weekend. Enough space for 4 shorties and 2 neoprene jackets.

That's a nice option. My bags when full leave little room other than for a few towels and one life jacket

My bags pretty much fill up to the hatch. I use a Rubbermaid tote for storage in the rear compartments when the bags are empty. When I fill them both, I just pull out the tote and set it in the floor. Not ideal, but it keeps all the stuff together in the tote and it is easy in and out of the compartment. I really like the tote for storing wet life vests, keeps the carpet dry.

I've been contemplating this myself recently. I like what you've done there Gonzo. I was thinking of hanging some similar nets off the engine dividers and the fiberglass on the other side. Of course have them be removable so you could still get underneath but be able to put jackets and ropes up high. Where did you get those nets Gonzo?
