Update- had the boat out over the weekend. I used a ratchet strap around the top of the pole down to the bow lifting ring. Ratcheted down a couple of clicks, then clamped the pylon strap. Removed the ratchet, and no movement from the pylon all weekend.

I had a BIG POLE in my 78 and I drilled it and put a small pin in it down low
