Hmmm ... interesting. They may have been marketed that way but they are 100% the Xtreme build of tower.

I believe the OE manufacture was Apex Canvas. I purchased a replacement part for my 07 X-star Bimini a couple years back. Very easy to work with.

I spoke with:

Xtreme just assembled the towers from MC parts. If you ever need any parts Xtreme doesn't have anything. You have to get it from MC, used or a retailer like Great Lake Skipper that has a stock of MC parts for our boats.

The X9 is slightly wider than the X7 so it would be for one or the other. You'll need to place the mounting blocks as they match the contour then compare measurements at the rear. The front legs may be the same. Your 2002 197 may not have the fiberglass from the factory set up to receive a tower. A friend mounted a tower on a 2002 197 ant the gel is spider cracked like mad.

Thanks for all of the input, and pictures! Very helpful stuff. I called great lakes skipper and they told me they needed a part number for them to be helpful. After talking to the local Mastercraft dealer and having him explain that it would take $1300 to put a Bimini top on I may follow up with Great Lakes. We are still in the middle of moving to a new house and the cable company has yet to complete the cable service in our section of the development so I won't be searching much on the Internet.

This tower was obviously on the boat at one time and there is some evidence of spider cracking near one of the holes for the front leg I certainly plan on taking steps to reinforce the installation points

The one you see on my old boat was made by a local shop to mount up to the factory location. What I liked about this approach was while they were fabbing it up I made sure it was not to low so I would not be banging my head all the time. Also it was a lot cheaper at around $600.
