Help - Mastercraft 2012 X-55 Won't Start

Hey Team Talk Nation,

I'm a 4th gen MC owner and current is X-55. I got the boat out today to get out on the water ...or so I thought.

While prepping the boat I turned the batteries on to listen to the stereo..no sound. Checked the horn...it worked so I had power. Also, surf tabs, lights, etc. All worked. I tried bumping the starter, nothing! I noticed the gauges were all fixed (tack, oil pressure, water temp, gas gauges all showed in the middle range (as if running)?? Not sure what that means? So I started the diagnostic process...

-Lanyard in place (kill switch) - check
-Neutral - Check
-50A breaker - check
-Fuses - check
...and so on.

I even disconnected the batteries for 5 mins and reconnected. Same. I took another battery off the fishing boat (new) and connected it. That wouldn't even turn the engine over.

Called Mastercraft service...and the service rep suggested the above. Otherwise, said to bring it in, but can't get to my boat for 10 days!!!

Any suggestions? HELP!

Thanks,
GBear

Try cleaning your battery terminals. Also trace the negative battery cable back to the engine and clean that connection. Check your grounds under/behind the dash also.

If that doesn't work, just keep tracing your positive cables starting at the battery. Check every connection point with a multimeter and try to pinpoint where you lose power.

Get new batteries. The accessories don’t draw any power compared to turning the starter. 99% sure that’s your problem

I had this happen a few years ago on our X55. Same symptoms, guages frozen, etc. A part of the ECM had to be replaced. I hope yours is isn’t the same. On the bright side, yours is still on the trailer. We were stranded on lake Powell. Always keep a multimeter on the boat.
.... we had power to all the electronics, lights, etc. and I think our stereo worked (it was a few years ago). Hopefully just your batteries.

Medalion Module

Ruled out any battery / connection related issues.

Well its prime time in summer as all service options are 3+ weeks out. However, the service tech said it sounds like a "ECM issue"(the tech said the frozen gauges triggered this diagnosis).

Any MC owners with 5+ year old boats have similar issues? Can the part be order and installed or am I SOL and need to wait my turn in line for service?

Appreciate any input/advice in advance. Thx, GBear

I don’t think the medallion viper module has anything to do with the start circuit.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried it with battery switch in the “combined” position? It’s possible that your house battery is good, and your engine battery is toast, and that’s why some stuff works and some stuff doesn’t.

Did you try the fishing boat battery in both battery positions?

Triple check your kill switch. You might consider jumping it and seeing if that works. Had it happen once.

Not sure if you tried this or not, have you checked to make sure the push button start is working?
