my new SoulCraft surfer got completed

Jeff completed this a couple of weeks ago to my liking. It is a Blunt Fang tail with a Honu tail, so a unique creation

Still waiting for some traction pad color options.

Jeff is a great guy to deal with. I have ordered 2 custom boards from him and they both turned out awesome.

What's the idea behind the blunt nose boards? Doesn't this just let you dip the nose into the water easier?

Two things:

1) Longer effective rail that's engaged with the water. This should make it faster, and potentially more dynamic ride. You're using the rail on these boards to generate speed, so more rail in the water should mean more speed.

2) For those that ride revert, it enables you to use the nose as a tail.

Actually a blunted or cut off nose will pearl or nose dive easier than a typical attenuated/point nose board, ATCE. You don't ride the rails as much as you ride the fins on a surfboard. You ride the rails on skim boards. Longer rail does not equal more speed. Short boards are faster than longboards. Yes, wider nose profiles have an advantage for revert riding and revert hold and stability before rotating back to normal. They also tend to have an advantage when rotating the board (more equal mass distribution). Outlines like this also allow you to ride a shorter board than you would otherwise. Imagine if the outline was carried forward to a natural attenuated nose, the board would be 4-6" longer. So, you can ride a shorter board which has an effect on the pivot of the board, but keep in mind you also now have more mass in the nose area, this too will change how the board pivots. Typical pointed noses still dominate in performance surfing because they simply do no catch as much during bottom turns and do not catch the lip as much when busting vertical maneuvers. Not as big of a problem in wake surfing since the lips of rather gutless by comparison, and you really do not need to set a hard bottom turn up the face.
