What's the story with the windshield that would cost $20M?

Here's the patent they infringed on. It is a design patent so you cannot copy it at all. Simple case to prove.

So, there are people out there that just draw up a windshield picture, patent it and that's it?!? Kinda strange to just patent a windshield. Which was done in 2006/2007. Isn't this about the same time BU came out with this type of design (don't know BU's too much).

If it's legitimate, and the guy thought the design up WAY before Malibu, then OK. But if a design came out and it was a race on who was quicker at getting a patent....well.

Just seems a little odd that a patent was claimed about the same time BU started using that windshield....

Many companies out there buying up patents.. even ones that never became products. Fun to follow when M&A transactions heat up.

Segway was supposed to change our mobility - nice toy but.. -- not quite sure what they did wrong.. don't see a frame on the drawings.. see vent holes in the frame.. in drawings..

Pacific Coast Marine Windshields builds windshields for custom applications and for tournament boat builders. It's possible Malibu approached them to commission them for their boats and took their design elsewhere for a more cost effective approach. If so, they deserve the settlement. If I was a small business from BC Canada, and a major boat builder began using a product remarkably similar to one I held a patent for, I'd sue too...
