Our family (Me, wife, and just the 2 kids) did something totally outside the box for us and went away for the Holiday. We always host, but went up to NH to the lake for 2 days and had a nice prime rib dinner for Thanksgiving.

We're back now, and I'm going to smoke a turkey tomorrow on the BGE just for kicks, and thanks to this thread for the inspiration. Oh, and fresh Butterballs were surprisingly cheap today, lol!

Brining it now.

Bump. Brining and smoking out Thanksgiving turkey this year. When I tried the first one after last year's thanksgiving, my wife said it was the best turkey she ever had.

Just put mine in the smoker 20 minutes ago!

Was thinking about trying something different this year. Smoke for about 6 hours at 250-275 and then finish off in the oven to temp at 350. Anyone tried that before?

I'll be deep frying again this year. Everyone seemed to love it last Thanksgiving and Christmas.

No need for the oven finish, BGE at 275F will still get the bird to final meat temps of 160F at the breast.

If you have a larger bird and it’s taking too long as the natives aggressively brandish their cutlery, then you can take her up to 300F or so to finish and crisp the skin at the end.

Happy TD TT.

Fair enough. I refuse to overcook it! Had read that finishing in the oven will crisp the skin a bit more. Got some hours to think about it.
