86 Skier Dashboard Dismantle.....?

Hey Im getting ready to restore my 86 going to do gel coat, graphics, interior and i also wanna redo the Dash all the plastic face plates are faded and i wanna pull it all out and repaint it... The lower ones just come out with a screw driver but im not seeing how i remove the upper one around the gauges..

Anyone have any advice? Also any advice in general on restoring as a whole is always welcome..

Also i wanted to take my windshield apart and have it painted and glass tinted but was advised against it... Is it risky trying to remove the glass without breaking it? Is it glued in?

There are 4 screws under the little plastic clips. There are 2 pins on the bottom. Gently roll the top of the pod off. Then it will have to move down to come off the pins. Be careful, that plastic is brittle after all these years.

My plastic was faded badly. I made aluminum panels to replace them. Had them powder coated and laser engraved.

I removed my windshield, it is not hard. Take off all the nuts under the deck and two screws, one at the end of each wing window. Have a helper hold the main windshield. Remove the two small screws at the top of the wings. They will slide up off the main. With them off your helper can hand you the main. The wings can be replaced with plexi. Take care of the main, will be hard and/or expensive getting a replacement.

Yours looks awesome... The only part im not clear on is this part.

"There are 2 pins on the bottom. Gently roll the top of the pod off. Then it will have to move down to come off the pins"

The lil caps are the pods? And this is just to take the front off?

Im just trying to picture this in my head sorry if they are dumb questions....

3D printing of plastic backing?

Hi - I have an '86 Skiier as well that I am trying to replace the plastic backing that goes around the edge of the dash. Did you ever find a way to reproduce that part? If so, could you kindly share where you had it made/printed?

Thank you!

Nope, there is no place to get it printed... I had to take my original one and have my local body shop fix it... 150 bucks good as new
