Does this photo scare you?

This is the LY6 of a 2011 X-25 salt water series that I am very close to buying. Lots of engine work done by MC dealer recently - new manifold, ECM and exhaust being the main components.

A 45 day warranty on the engine has been offered as part of the deal.

This could be from a '78 Datsun for all I know...

Any feedback is most welcome.

Thanks in advance,
B

I think you know the answer to your question. Run a mile. All this could be ok but I bet you would be buying what someone else has given up on. I bet the previous owner has said get it going as cheap as possible and sell it for me.
It could be the perfect boat for someone who wants to fiddle and if it was giveaway cheap may be different but I would say anyone who has to question if its worth looking at is not the right guy to buy it. Bound to be another one in 'loved' condition somewhere. There are plenty of guys on here who will have a good idea of the value of a boat like this. Tell us what he is asking and post more pictures. Good luck

just walk away...

or get a one year all inclusive warranty with a buy back option. I.E. if they can't fix it after the third try, the dealer buys it back from you for what you paid including tax.. that will tell you how sure they are of it being fixed...

Thanks to everyone for their posts. The dealer purposely took the decorative cover off for the photo. This rig is the red X-25 that has been at Silver Sands Marina since last fall. Yes, it has a checkered past but so does my '05 X10 and yet I take it to the farthest slot canyons in Lake Powell without hesitation. I have been looking for an X25 for 9 months. I am the classic 'champagne on a beer budget' guy. I have a master plan for my family's summer and this boat works into that very nicely.

Silver Sands seems to have a solid rep on these forums. IF I MISSED YOUR SILVER SANDS HORROR STORY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. They have offered the boat to me for $46,900 with a 45 day warranty and trust me, we will run the boat EVERY ONE OF THOSE DAYS. The next available options are in Houston at $57,000. I looked at them last week. Both have their warts and neither come with a boat cover, let alone a warranty. The next step is $60K and it goes up quickly from there. I realize there are many red flags with this boat but there is also a good chance that I'm coming in at the right time after someone else gave up on her.

I like the idea of the buy back clause due to multiple issues and will take a run at that. My experience is based on buying my 1991 ProStar new and enjoying 25 years of mostly trouble free fun, and a 2005 X10 from a private party with "only" 125 hours that seemed like an absolute cream puff but those low hours of use created many headaches later on.

I am attaching all of the photos they sent me which were taken today. I realize I am rolling the dice in a big way but they could have easily said, "sorry, we don't have any service records on this" but they didn't and instead sent me some seriously gory details. I think the price is reflective of the history and knowing it's an MC dealer that it is only a few hours away does give me some peace of mind.

Wish me luck!

At least they liked underwater lights.

The boat looks pretty decent. What is the story of problems? SS are hard to come by.

The salt water series is the only thing that scares me. If the price is right and it checks out I'd say go for it. It's a used boat so as always buyer be ware!
