Had this with my 08 and my 11. Just don't lift the hatch. She'll be right.

My 2013 w/ 6.0 is like this as well. I lift the motorbox after every ski session to let the heat and moisture escape. Mine is worn pretty good already with only 86 hours on it.

Lol, I see all of these high dollar issues with other peoples dashes, electronics, and other major features in the new boats, I'm not sure you are going to get much sympathy for 1" piece of carpet, only noticed when the engine box is open. Certainly a bummer and oversight by MC, but with some of the issues I have ready about, I would count your blessings.

2012/2013 197 Owners - Engine box solution?

Small piece of duct tape could fix that

Anyone on here using duct tape on their MC should be banned.

I agree...could be worse than premature wear on the carpet. The point is, this boat design has been around for 13 years and it's a bit disappointing that a problem that wasn't there in the earlier years is deemed acceptable in the later years. And with a hole in carpet after only 80 hours, without addressing the issue it will look like crap in another year or two.

Certainly feel bad for those experiencing major electronic issues. I agree, this is cosmetic and a nuisance, but not detrimental. Nevertheless, I think we all choose MC due to the "Held to a higher standard" so when there is an obvious design or performance flaw, for the premium paid I think we should expect more.

Easy fix, before you start wearing out the carpet, put a square piece of aftermarket gray carpet on the motor box exactly where the rubbing will be. Either get it sown or adhered to some how. Then the original carpet will not wear away. The secondary piece of carpet will take the beating and save the original carpet on the motor box...replace as needed...cost...less that $5.

Be sure to put something on the pylon as well so that is not scratched up either.
