I’ll revive this. I’m about to do the work tomorrow. I have the cleats and the 3M. earlier backing plates are mentioned. I was able to take pictures of the back sides of the rear and side cleats - NO backing plates are used. Only the nuts provided with the cleats. In fact, locking washers do not appear to have been used by my cleats came with them. So...no backing plates?
