Freeze plug

Anyone ever seen a freeze plug pop for reasons other than freezing?

Incorrect Installation, or just a plain ole bad plug can make it happen.

Just had it happen on an 80's something skid steer. Couldn't find a real reason. Cleaned up the hole and popped in a new plug. Been in there for a couple months now and no leaking.

They will often corrode and leak as a result of that. The plugs are really there to fill holes created during the casting process of the block or heads. The holes are what's left from the sand cores that make up the water jackets and their supports. Although the plugs can be forced out if water freezes in the block or heads, that isn't really their purpose.

Had one pop on my first use this this spring. Not was winterized by the dealership. Dealer not real sure why. Guess it could just be a random thing.

Sadly, they are not actually freeze plugs, so im always surprised to hear when one popped out and the block did not crack.

The old debate they are not freeze plugs but casting plugs.

They pop out all the time without cracking a block. I had it happen on my 92.

I am glad that is the case.. I just want to know that no liquids froze in my boat. It should have never happened. This is a brand new boat.
