Smile Canít Decide Which Boat Would Be Best

I want a surf boat that is 23í long. The lake I go to is very big with rough waters at times.
Maristar 1998 to 2000 priced $13k to $25k and add tower, cruise control and a ballast system
Thatís another 3k to 5k just a guess. OR 2007 or 2008 X45 for $43k to $50k ready to surf.
I have surfed behind a Maristar 230 and it was perfect but not an X45.
Whatís Everybodyís Thoughts ???

Between those two? X45 all day long. Several folks on here have owned them and I have surfed behind one. They are just in a whole new class over the Maristar if you're looking to do watersports IMO. You'll want a surf system of some sort eventually though, so if you don't get Gen 2 right out of the gate then I would consider adding this or a GSA as part of the investment.

Happy shopping!

there are a lot more options out there that might fit your needs better; where do you really want to be price-wise? that's kind of a strange comparison--old, ugly maristar vs. newer x45 at double the price. x45 wins all day IMO, but again there might be better options at both price points if you can tell us what range you really want to land in.

There is another thread on the X45 surfability from a month ago that was good

X45 would be a great choice

X45 all day. Better in every regard, including handling rough water. As jtryon pointed out, that is a bit of an odd comparison. There are a lot of options between the 2. But if the budget supports the X45, that is probably an ideal choice for your needs. (at least from the MC choices)

No. MasterCraft Gen 2 surf tabs were introduced in 2014, but many have retrofitted them on to older boats. A third party solution is the "GSA" or "Go Surf Assist" option.

As a '99 Maristar owner...if you want to surf a lot, get something else. It's doable with the correct weighting, but the X45 with GSA should be your choice 10 out of 10 times if surfing is what you really want to do. May I suggest wakeboarding instead?
