New boat, where do you point remote

I just got an X35. It has a remote control and I don't know where to point it to get it to work. Is there a sensor somewhere or do you have to have the glovebox open to point it at the head unit? Thanks. (clarion)

My head unit is outside of glovebox, but I still have to point it directly at unit.

I guess those new locking glove boxes don't allow the signal to reach the head unit.

Not sure on the newer ones but the old Clarions have a sensor in the wired remote at the driver.

Post a picture of the handheld remote.
If it's radio frequency, like a keyfob transmitter, the glove box door position shouldn't matter. If you had a billet cover then the short antenna coming off the small RF receiver behind the radio can be moved, but not extended.
If it's infrared, like a credit card or TV remote, then there is an IR target in the face of the source unit requiring the glovebox door to be open. But keep in mind that IR gets washed out by sunlight so this is more of a dusk and dark operation. It would be great for the salon of a cruiser, which is often the case, but not really applicable to a runabout. If it's in the box they're going to through it in the packet.

On my 2012 X2 the remote only works if I point it at the plastic MC logo insert on the glovebox lid.

We had the same problem with the flat credit card looking remote for our Clarion CMD5. It wouldn't work unless you pointed it directly at the head unit, at close range. I ordered one of the RF remotes from Earmark. It works amazingly well. We use it from anywhere in the boat, and even 40-50 feet behind the boat while hanging out with friends in the water. No problems. Its waterproof, and even floats.

I have a 2010. I can point at remote at driver's station, remote mounted on transom, radio with glove box door open and it works. Glove box door closed - does not work.

Point it at your wife and see if a beer gets delivered!
