2001 X5

Im looking at a 2001 X5 and was wanting some imput from the Mastercraft family. Like I said its a 2001 X5 with 850 hours. it is some cracks is the seats and some nicks on the gelcoat. The red on the boat is faded and will need to be buffed out. I have asked the owner to take to the local MC dealer to be checked out. If everything checks out I can get it for $14500.

Thoughts?? Good or Bad??

According to Nada Guides (http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/2001...0115811/Values) low retail is $12,000. Given the condition show in the pictures, I think even low retail is a push. If it were me, I'd look for something cleaner as that is a sign of an owner that cared.

That boat looks kinds rough. If you are anal its gonna take a lot of work and money to get it nice. Looks like the boat needs complete interior which is gonna run $2500+. I only see one comp. on OIB with less hours and way better shape for $17K. You sure couldn't make that boat look like it for $2500 so I would say thats to high.

You don't run across many V-drives under 20K. If you want a DD you can find those all day everyday for well under 20K.

I owned an 01 X5 before my current boat. Nice wake for skiing and OK for basic boarding. We had two pre-teens so it was fine. Now with teens and their friends, our X2 gets crowded. We would never survive if we had kept the X5. If I were to go back to a DD I would go for a 205 rather than the X5.

If your budget is 25k keep your eyes out for an earlier 205V or the original XStar or an older 1st gen X2 (all the same hull.) They can be found in that price range if you are patient. One of the best all-round hulls MC ever made.

Way over priced for the condition.

You need to walk away from that boat or get it in the $10K range. That boat has been rode hard and left uncovered. I can see chips on the spray rails so the hull can't be too peachy either. This boat was owned by someone that didn't give a hoot about it. Or daddy's boat that the boys trashed.

If the outside looks like this how do you think the engine and trailer have been taken care of? This is a project boat, nothing more.

Let's do some math....

Interior - $4K
Trailer (as you'll be lucky if there's even brake fluid in the master cylinder and the tires are probably shot) - $1.5K
Fiberglass repair (including detailing) - $1.5K
Misc. - .5K

To get it back to very good condition barring any engine, trans or electrical problems you're looking at close to $8K.

You can find a lot of real nice boats out there in this class with lower hours that have never been beaten for that kind of money. Don't let the entry fee on this one fool you unless you're looking for a project.

I'm with bturner. That thing is a hot mess. Look for 205v's. There were a few on onlyinboards last month for sub 25k. They may not be local but I'd drive 1000 miles before I took that x5 home.
