First Boat Purchase! 1996 Prostar 205

Hello All,

I'm new here and I've been searching for a boat for a few months now and finally pulled the trigger, One week ago I drove down to Texas and bought Mah2496's Prostar!

So far I'm in love, still can't belive this thing is a 1996!

Upgrades and Accesories..

Sampson Tower with Bimini and folding racks.
Two 550 fat sacks with pump
Two Polk interrior speakers
Kicker amp
Mtx 10" sub

Also, any ideas for a "cheaper" tower speaker install?

A few things I was going to ask about was the fuel tank sensor always shows 3/4 of a tank? Easy fix or should I take it to the shop? Also does anyone know how much it would cost?

Back seat, anyway to reinforce this thing to make it a "usable" sun deck. It's already Boeing at the ends so I'm wondering if I should just get a new seat made and one that will be sturdy enough to be used as a sun deck.

Steering cable, turning is hard left, and a little easier right? Any ideas? And ideas on price for taking it to a shop?

Last, is there a good place to order the tag decals, I want to try and match the shiny silver decals for my Oklahoma numbers.

Oh and here's a couple pics from this past week.
- Had to stop at In and out Burgers on the way back too!

Thanks!
-Chance W

Do a search for the fuel sender in the tank. Easy to fix with some epoxy, takes a few hours. Probably time to replace the steering cable. Order one online, fairly easy to replace. Search for threads on that too.

Next project on my 1995 Prostar 190 is to make up some sort of reinforcement for the rear seat. Leaning towards just a wood beam that I can lay under the seat and support it while down, but also stand it on end and support while up. I don't want to attach anything to the bottom because I still like to remove it and shove it under the driver seat when everyone is done for the day. Clears up a lot of room.

I went with the Rockford 282-wake speakers and have been happy. To me it was a good balance between sound quality, weight and power draw. Plus I can remove them in under a minute and store them out of the elements.

Fix for the tank is easy. I bought new sender from skidim and installed myself. The pain of it is you have to move the tank far enough forward to get it about where the rear seat is to clear the rear deck so you have space to get old one out and new in. In your pics that pad at the rear deck is missing---is it off for travel or just not there?? I have a 96 also and something is missing there.....

Rear deck is missing. Went through the sender issue as well and just got a new one and glad I did. It's a new design and should not have the same issues as the OEM one. I would get a new top pad made and do fuel and deck at the same time as both need the tank removed.

Awesome! I'll look into the fuel sender and steering cable! Thanks guys.

And ski/hunt it is removed for travel, the previous owner said he always removed it when pulling the boat.

Yeah my rear seat and that pad just come right off, there is two holes on the boat after you remove the pad I guess that's where the bolts were?

Is there a video on replacing the fuel sender and steering cable?
