While home on vacation I took a couple pictures of my late grandfathers flight log from WWII. He flew B-24 Liberators out of San Giovanni Italy 1944-1945. I know there are some history buffs that might find this interesting I know I did. I wonder what happened on July 7 Whew!

Very cool. Maybe the "whew" is because it was a long (8+ hour) mission? I guess the bombing missions are indicated by the "*". I wonder what the difference between 1 star and 2 stars means?

If I'm reading it right, it looks like they bombed an oil refinery in Bucharest on July 3. And then did another 2 1/2 hour flight the same day? I wonder what the numbers 10x500 mean?

I would guess 10 500 lb bombs...

I would also guess the "Whew!" was because that was their last mission.

From what my dad has told me the 10x500 is the bomb payload so 10 500 lb bombs. And the "Whew!" was because they took on some fire. It wasn't their last mission there were a few more pages after this one. The log goes back from when he first joined and started flying and followed him throughout his service.

Thanks for sharing.
My grandfathers brother was a B24 pilot in the pacific. He piloted the Live Wire in the Jolly Rogers Group. I have many of his old books from his training etc. but nothing really from his active duty. He went down in the China Sea and was lost near the end of the war.
