So, what does that pin do thatís on the broke part? Is it just a alignment pin? Or does it pull the tower together??

I honestly don't know. I was shocked when I pulled the tower apart and found the pin. The piece appears to be machined from a single piece of billet. When I asked Gere Marie the difference in the Generation 1 (broken piece) and the Generation 3, they said the radius was changed. I put it in my vertical mill at home and measured it with a dial indicator and they were the same...

Looks to be some sort of alignment dowel.

That is an odd piece. Why have all of that stress on 2 little ears?

2007 x-star broken tower.

That dowel pin looks like a design change, to give it more shear strength, maybe. They should have put a better piece of alum in there.
