I referred to your old post when I changed out the steering cable and helm on my '86 this past weekend. Thanks for the insight. The job went very well. Steering feels great on the trailer! One suggestion for Theomedic if I may. If you are replacing the cable and helm and you have an extra $140 you might consider this Steering Hookup Kit from Mastercraft.

You've got it all apart, you might as well finish it. Once you've done that there is nothing left to refresh. Best of luck.
Good point. I didn't think of that as that and the shaft, strut, prop and rudder were all new on my boat when I got it.

I have my old helm and wheel mounted to a board shaped like the dash from my boat. When I install new gauges I will be adding them. More man cave stuff. Sorry I can't be of help.

Well it was easy to take everything apart, found some bad news, the floor under the rear seats is soft, but not rotten, so I'll have to find a good post on how to fix that come winter time. Lucky the stringers are still rock solid which I'm quite surprised. I guess it's because the previous owner replaced the carpet with a plush home carpet and it just doesn't get dry back there.

My order should arrive tomorrow and I'll start the install. Thank you for all the assistance, this site is fantastic!

Just following through. The part came in and it was an easy install. Everything went together easily and it worked first time. The steering seemed a little tight for the first lap around the lake, then it loosened up and you can steer with one finger. Thank you for all your help, it made the task easier.
