Mooring Cover Burn

I just parted ways with my 2008 Maristar 245 (150 hours) and have purchased a '17 NXT 22. The only issue I had with my Maristar was that the upholstery at the stern got burned by the mooring cover. The local lake authority does not allow canopies on docks or boat lifts, and I am having a skirt added to the existing cover.

That being said, does anyone have any ideas that would prevent this from happening to my new boat?

Was it burned or the dreaded "plinking" from microbes in the vinyl which is so common to boats of that vintage?

When I took it to the dealer he said it was burning. It looked like the color on the cushions had been removed and it was a little sticky. I am not sure what 'plinking' is, can you explain that one for me?

The color of the cushions are actually a light pink. You'd know if you had it. Sounds like you had the burn and not the pink. I'd suggest the best option is to try and get the cover from touching any of the vinyl. Not sure how realistic that is but even a little air buffer will make a big difference in how hot the vinyl will get.

a folded towel or a scrap of upside down carpet will keep the cover off the vinyl
