gearbox swap.

ive got a 2003 x5 with the ZFHURTH 45C gearbox. it has a definite rattle in neutral and at low throttle when just in gear ..it goes away with just a little more throttle on , ive read allsorts of threads regarding different oils .and that its supposed to be normal , bit I find it really irritating, is it possible to replace it with a borg warner box do they share the same mounting brackets or do I have to change these to?

I was under the impression that VD's rattled some with ATF, mine does not - but some discuss them being quieter with engine oil instead of ATF.

Did you try the suggestions of the various threads? Probably lots easier than the conversion.

I have tried engine oil, its probably slightly quieter but still noisy ... it performs well but its just just so so annoying, I find myself listening to it all the time ..:-(
