Question Looking at an X Star - Help!

I'm looking for my first boat and would love to get a late 90s or early 2000s Prostar 205 V or an X Star. I ran across a 2001 X Star on Craigslist and the price is pretty good but there are some things that make me nervous. With this being my first boat, it would be awesome if some of you experienced Mastercraft owners could tell me it's nothing to worry about (I'm fairly certain that won't be the case).

2001 Mastercraft X STAR 330 hp LTR V8 5.7 Motor $17000

Here are my worries:

1. The current owners have only owned it 3 years and they don't know the history of the boat before that.
2. The engine looks fairly dirty, possibly even some corrosion, it's not a great picture so I can't be sure.
3. The Hobbs meter is broken so they estimate 700 hours, don't know how they know that if they don't know the prior history of the boat.
4. The cover's really faded (left outside through winter?) and there are a couple spots that look to show some corrosion namely the prop shaft bracket.

So I'm pretty sure I should leave this one alone but I figured I'd poll the experts first. I've been looking for a few months and haven't seen many MC's come up for sale in my area, so worth asking.

I would walk away from that one. There are always a lot of 205vs for sale. If your willing to wait, drive, and go up slightly on price 25kish, you can get a much cleaner and nicer boat.

I'd pass on that too. If they don't know the history its not a good sign.

I say go see it in person and if it looks ok do a water test. It could be an opportunity to talk the owner down and get a good deal.

Yep, I'd walk from that one. Looks to be quite rough, and like others have said, more will be on the market.

Is that a galvanized trailer? That + corrosion makes me think salt water use. Engine looks suspect, and the pic of the prop didn't help either. Upholstery didn't look bad. Too many unknowns. I'd keep looking. That one isn't going anywhere soon at that price.
