Installing new gauge

Depth finder. Making sure, i should tap into the purple ignition switch wire? Noticed no other gauges has a purple wire but yet they work with the key on. Been trying to get a volt meter on it but not limber enough.
Thanks!

On my boat, the PO had a wire connected directly to the ignition switch (but it was attached to nothing). I tested the power for it and used that as my positive power. I removed the MC clock and placed my Depth finder in that spot and grounded it to the other gauges.

Do you know the color of the wire to the ignition switch? Trying to find the power pole on the switch. Can't get my lot meter in there.
