Audio Mods to 2016 X26

When we took delivery of our 2016 X26 (new holdover) from an out-of-state dealer about 6 weeks ago, the only X26 we had been in was a 2018, which had the Klipsch system.

When I got it home and started to play with the audio (JL) I was baffled and disappointed by how MC set-up this system. Only 2 speakers in the cockpit? In a 26ft boat? And then I discovered how underpowered the 4 M770s were.

The sound was, to say the least, underwhelming.

We had it a week and it was on the way to the guys who know way more about this stuff than me.

The result...

I added another pair of M770s - one at the helm and the other near the copilot - and another 10" sub at the drivers kick. To drive all this we made amp changes, adding a JL 1000/5 and replacing the 400/4 with a 600/6.

So the configuration is now this:

- 600/6 bridged to 3 channels running the 2 bow speakers and 8" sub (also added a volume knob at the helm to control the sub separately)

- 800/8 bridged to 4 channels driving the 4 cockpit speakers and dash tweeters

- 1000/5... 4 channels bridged to power the 2 M880 towers and the 5th channel driving 300W each to the 2-10" subs.

The system now sounds awesome - like it should have in the first place.

I already have some tweeks in mind but after living with it for a month, I'm very happy. The sound is now worthy of the boat.

Awesome! I know that is one of the first things I did when I got my boat was add amps to power the cockpit speakers and a bigger amp for the tower speakers. It made a big difference and I have really wanted to add 2 more cockpit speakers, but I don't have a great location in my boat.

You basically just did what I have wanted to do, but have not pulled the trigger on. Nice work!

I agree that the stock setup is kind of ridiculous.

Thank you. It has made a HUUUGE difference and the guys at TintMasters here in Minneapolis did a great job. My wife worried about how I was moping around the house the first day we brought it home. I loved everything about the boat but the audio honestly sucked. Like I said earlier... we now have an audio system that's worthy of the boat (although it's frustrating I had to drop another $2500 to get it there!)

Looking good!

I just got myself 800/8v2 (bridged on the tower 4) and 1000/5v2 (cabin + sub) today. Now thinking about adding a second woofer and running both subs @ 2 Ohm.
