Did I miss something here?

WaterSki Magazine, May 2006 issue, page 76, evolution of slalom, FIRST SWIVELHEAD SKI PYLON 1991, Malibu Boats???????????????
Then why has my 1989 Prostar 190 got a Wear-Guard Pylon patented by MasterCraft, shown in the 1989 brochure and came standard from the factory on 1989 boats that started production in the fall of 1988???????????????????????????????????
I have already called Waterski Magazine and MasterCraft!

Or, am I missing something here! Some other skiboat maufacturer may have patented it first, but it wasn't BU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Tauber, who wrote the article, returned my phone call, confirming my statement in the Thread and was already aware of a conflict.
Yes, both companies have patents for the same principle [same fruit, but from a different tree], but MasterCraft introduced it into the waterski industry with their patent 2 years before Malibu as stated in the article. More research will be performed and a correction to the sidebar in WaterSki will result if MasterCraft was indeed the first to patent, produce and introduce it in 1988. If it is discovered that some other skiboat manufacturer patented, produced and introduced it first then they will be given credit in a correction.

Yeah TMC #1, I noticed that as well in the article. I was guesing that they were talking about the whole head patent by Bu. I thought the same thing, "my '89 has a swivel pylon, why no mention of that-it came first!?" IMHO the 'bu head is just a variation on the MC swivel, and MC made the real invention first. Not knocking 'bu, I just think MC should have had the mention as originators, maybe with a comment on the 'bu patent also. Oh well, we know the real truth!

Here, let me fan the flames a bit... My '87 had the same little 1/2 swivel plastic sleeve around the head as well...

Ok, maybe your's was retrofitted with a later model plyon or is was standard or an option in '87, regardless that makes it a year sooner in MC's favor, anybody got a '86 with one.
