Minneapolis

Hey all-

Got an upcoming guys weekend in Minneapolis. We’re coming from the west coast. Looking to rent a boat and do some wakebording / wakesurfing locally for maybe a morning. Can anybody recommend an outfit / good lake that rents boats? Hard to swallow the bill owning one but it is what it is.

Cheers

Eric

Eric,

The popular places for a guys weekend would be Lake Minnetonka, or the St Croix river (border of mn/ wi). The only thing I have heard of is call “My Boat Club”, I know some friends that have signed up for it, and have a lot of troubles actually reserving a decent boat. Probably plenty of pontoons. If there are places, don’t delay they likely fill up quick. The weather has been amazing this summer in Minneapolis for boating.

Have a safe trip.

Wayne

Not sure about being able to rent a ‘sport’ boat on Minnetonka but there are a lot of places that rent pontoons.

Where are you staying? I’d be happy to take you out skiing on Minnetonka during the evening. My boat doesn’t surf so well but it can... sort of.

You could call Mark Mulrooney at Son Watersports (owner). Great guy, and may be able to get into a boat?

This is the local Mastercraft dealer, maybe they could help you out.

Here’s the local Malibu dealer, who sells a TON of boats. So maybe they have some loaners.

@Kwoody51 Thank you for the offer. Very kind of you. Unfortunately we are pretty booked up in the evening with other crap, although being on the water at that time sounds amazing!

I contacted Midwest to see if we can demo a 2016 X23 they have. I've been seriously looking at moving out of the X30 into that boat anyways.

Thank you all for the responses

Eric

Let me know if you have any other questions about the area. We boat on Minnetonka almost every weekend so can give you the run down.

Short version - is crazy busy on the weekends and you have to go to the way west or north side if you want a shot at usable water. There are a ton of cool houses though so it’s fun to cruise around.

I know there is a guy that takes people out in his boat for sessions—for hire, of course.

Good call here the info - it’s $150 an hour. They go out on Hallsted’s bay which is the most western bay on Minnetonka and thus typically not too busy.

Too bad I am out of town because I would take you out on my lake on my X14 for gas money. It does not surf but it wakeboards well and I have 4 different hydrofoil setups to try and I can teach anyone to ride in less than an hour. Wakesurfing is so "yesterday" and foiling is the new cool kid's sport.
