That's good to know guys. I also hear the "winged rudder" also robs some HP. I figured I could go three blade and get some more top end but I enjoy the hole shot of the 4 blade.

Probably about the same as the hook on TT and later models.

Going to a CNC prop from the older props will often get you more top end for the same hole shot, or more hole shot for the same top end, and sometimes even both.

Funny thing is I just got an 821? And the 30 is at 4k for 27 unweighted and I'm happy about it.

Do you have the powerslot or not?

If not, and you don't want to give up the top end, go with the Acme 425 or OJ XMP 13 x 13.

If you do, you're pretty much limited to a 4 blade. 13.7 x 17.5 or 13.7 x 19.5 OJ XMP I think would be your best options for the powerslot.

I have no idea if I do have the power slot, is there a way to identify it on the transmission?

The transmission should say the gear ratio on the stamped metal piece that says what it is. Non-powerslot is 1:1, powerslot is 1.5:1.

It is doubtful that changing props will get you any more than 1 mph. If your RPMs are in the specified range, you have what you have. Need more speed, remove the tower. You can search this site for the 50 or so others that asked the same question as you about getting more speed out of the 197.

Why do you need more than 41 mph? If it's for footing, the wake won't be as nice as your 98 Response anyway.

JohnnyB good to know that the same boat is performing the same.

KYFooter, I don't need to go any faster. I just got the boat and am trying to figure out if things are performing as advertised.
