X46 v XT23

I'm looking to get a Mastercraft and I'm torn between these two boats. Really like them both.

Inland, fresh water lake in the mid-west. Gets very choppy on weekend and when there's a big breeze.

Will regularly have two adults and three small kids 10 and under aboard - plus a regular 4-5 additional adults/kids on weekends.

New to surfing but see us using the boat for that an wake boarding, plus tubing. Likely 40% surfing, 60% cruising on the boat.

Torn between the two. Love the size of the X46 bow but the boat may also be too big.

Would love to hear suggestions. I was previously torn between the X46 and the X30 - but now looking at the XT23. Have twice driver the X23 in heavier chop and was shocked at how bad the ride was.

Having owned the X30(XT23) and X46. The 46 wins the comfy factor by a long shot with a large crew on board
The ride in chop is about the same
Handling around the dock and ramp is about the same as well.
X46 is low slung like the X30 so you are not as high off the water as say a
An X55 or another high freeboard boat.

X46 take 1 engine larger to move equal to X30.

Good luck John. Doubt a bad decision can be made.

We just hit 50 hours on our XT23. Though it's not our everyday lake, we've had it on Lake of the Ozarks on a peak summer weekend, and Lake Michigan. We've been blown away by how well it handles the chop. To us, it's noticeably more stable in big water than the discontinued X30, but I can't help you compare it to an X46.

In terms of room, we regularly have 8+ adults on our XT23, and have had as many as 11 without feeling crammed. But as you pointed out, the bow of the XT23 does feel much smaller than the X46. Speaking only from sitting in them on the showroom floor, we preferred the cockpit layout of the XT23 vs. the staggered rear bench of the X46. The X46 reversible helm seat is interesting to me. I'd love it when parked, not sure I'd want the bench when pulling riders. I do wish our XT23 had the transom seats.

Our use case is similar to yours, except we want to be able to ski ~15% of the time, so the X46 wasn't really on our radar. When it comes to surfing, it's worth noting that Gen2 gets the XT23 to 7,600lbs of stock weight. Maybe there are convenient aftermarket ways to increase the X46 to that level (or heavier given its additional length), but I'm not familiar.

Surf Wave

This is great feedback guys -thank you.

How would you compare the stock surf wave on these two boats? My concern with the x46 is I don't want to add lead or reconfigure in any way at this price - is there a noticeable difference in the stock waves?

Don't think there are many others on here that have any significant experience surfing the XT23, and unfortunately I have no experience surfing an X46. I do, however, have a lot of experience surfing the discontinued X30, and the XT23 can produce a noticeably larger stock wave out-of-the-box vs. the X30, especially starboard side.

There are a number of threads comparing the X30 to the X46 surf wave, such as:

https://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk...ad.php?t=62965

You'll notice many on here have said the X46 is tougher to dial in, with some preferring the X30 outright and others seeing the two as similar. So I could deduce XT23 > X46, but not firsthand.

Stock X30 to stock XT23 its the XT23 all day. Surfing an XT23 vs an X30 with 750's and lead however- X30 all day. As for the 46, that is the only boat in the fleet I haven't ridden.

Disagree with this from personal experience, but can save it for another time to prevent threadjack.

Let us know what you decide John.

Stock to stock, you won't be happy with the 46. Needs weight simply because of how big it is.

X30 (XT30) was better stock than my X46
Both can have great waves without extra bags on the floor.
X46 needs and additional 500lbs over anything you add to the the
X30
