Four fourtys wake pictures have been really impressive and prove it can be done.

But if your surfing please dont buy an x star. It is a WAKEBOARD BOAT. Then one complains it doesnt have a good surf wake? Lol

That is definitely a fair statement. It took me a little while to get it dialed for surfing especially for goofy riders. It certainly can put out a nice surf wake, but it is not a push button deal. The wakeboard wake is a different story.

I remember now, I dislike the large size cushion on the port side observer seat. It is too big to just lift up and get something underneath. Now all the new boats have hinges and latches to hold the cushion up and out of the way until you have retrieved your items from under the seat.
like list is too long.

Any must have upgrades for a 2nd gen star? I'm boat shopping and looking for things that are bonus points in an xstar. Factory ballast a better option than one that's already plumbed with plug and plays (for wear reasons)?

I have no lake time yet with the system, but playing around with the new Fusion Head unit is light years ahead of my '07 Xstar. (I realize this is not Xstar specific)

-Independent Zone and level control = awesome. Being able to turn the tower speakers off all together, or way up for the rider without the cabin blowing everybody's ears off is a great feature.
-Being able to scroll through iPod playlists, not only on the main screen, but from the transom remote and bow remote is great, especially since we sand bar up quite a bit
-Bluetooth, very cool feature

Other things I love, actually has a sundeck vs. the X46. Front bow has custom contoured seats that are comfortable sitting both directions for 2 real sized people. Being able to configure the thing color scheme wise any way you want...Star is the only model that in no way limits your selections.

Things I may not like at times, 7.4L engine sounds aggressive and can scare small children and the elderly. The step up and over center to get to the bow is up for debate...Oh, and if the Gen 2 surf never becomes available for current hull star that would be a bummer, but I'm confident something will be available soon.

Not much IMO as the star is loaded with everything you need, but you should look for a star with a 6L if you want to load up with extra ballast.

I choose to NOT plumb in extra ballast and instead use an external pump and 3 fat sacs. This way i can move the bags around.

If you both wakeboard, you'll be happy with it! My MCX does fine, but the 6.0 is just icing on the cake! Prop makes a huge difference on the star too.
What year are you looking at?
