Check engine light

I have a 2002 prostar 209. When the boat is off and key is removed the check engine light comes on and the buzzer starts beeping. The perfect pass screen also lights up with the sound of the buzzer. The boat starts up and runs great. The light and buzzer stop when the boat is running. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

A wiring short maybe, no key detected but still receiving power? Kinda like when you leave your key in the car but you have the door open.

Leave the key in and jiggle it in the ignition switch. If it starts as soon as the key is inserted, the switch has contacts for this but may have an internal problme.
